Limited Integration Capabilities
Connecting ECC to newer cloud and third-party applications took custom effort, slowing every change to the wider landscape.
How Nidec Motion Control Engineering moved from on-premise SAP ECC 6.0 to SAP S/4HANA 2022 on AWS, under a single RISE with SAP contract.
Nidec Corporation, formerly Nippon Densan Corporation, is a renowned Japanese manufacturer and distributor of electric motors. Their diverse product range includes hard disk drives, electric appliances, automotive components (powertrains, steering, ADAS systems), and manufacturing equipment.
Nidec's Motion Control Engineering (MCE) is its subsidiary in the US, which specializes in motors and controllers for elevators.
MCE wanted to move to SAP S/4HANA on the cloud, and the RISE contract offered an integrated package of software licences, annual maintenance (AMC), cloud infrastructure and technical cloud services into a single package.
MCE ran SAP ECC 6.0 EHP 7 on on-premise hosting. The conversion changed the release, the hosting model and the way the platform is contracted.
| Component | Before | After |
|---|---|---|
| ERP system | SAP ECC 6.0 | SAP S/4HANA |
| Release | Enhancement Package 7 | 2022 SP02 |
| Hosting | On-premise | AWS Cloud |
| Deployment model | Self-managed | RISE Private Cloud Edition |
An on-premise ECC system had served MCE well, but it was setting the ceiling on integration, insight and growth.
Connecting ECC to newer cloud and third-party applications took custom effort, slowing every change to the wider landscape.
Reporting depended on batch extracts rather than real-time insight into operations, finance and supply chain.
On-premise infrastructure made it harder to keep pace with growing transaction volumes and business demand.
The existing ECC system was converted to SAP S/4HANA rather than rebuilt, keeping proven processes and historical data, while RISE brought the platform, hosting and services under one contract.
Faster processing on SAP S/4HANA at a lower total cost of ownership.
One cloud platform and one contract in place of on-premise hardware and separate agreements.
Streamlined processes built on the S/4HANA data model.
A modern core that connects more easily with cloud applications.
Enterprise-grade controls managed within the RISE private cloud environment.
